Being There (Israel, 2001)

For 3000 years the Judean desert has been the subject of political conflicts, wars and atrocities. Since biblical times it has offered shelter for prophets and political refugees and in our modern times the desert is used as a dividing front between Israel and the West bank. This series of images explores the gaps between a mythical notion of a place and its tangible geography. The anonymous voids depicted in the images are questioning the validity of mythical sentiment and historical claims.
